Just came across this group of threads, great Idea to find ways for those of US who are slightly hampered in our adventures. :2tsup:

I am somewhat slowed down because I lost both of my legs some 48 years ago and have had trouble standing in front of my lathe for some time, also getting up from the floor when doing work has been a problem, But when I feel bad about myself I think of a fellow I know who is a "Quad" Both les and both hands are dismembered... Lee *his name) has two gripping hooks for hands and on leg gone above the knee and one below. I see him often when I visit my Prosthesist for adjustments. when I see him there I am so glad of my meager disability. You would not believe the things he does (or did, as he is getting as old as myself) Harly Davidson riding, Water Skiing, drives an unmodified pickup truck, etc.

I ate dinner with him one evening and watched him slice his steak with ease and the only difference was he asked for a drink in a can so he could crush and make a dimple in the can to ease in hiolding it. (the glass slid out)

Hi Hickory, welcome aboard.
I read your story very well, and my conclusion, you're doing well despite your disability.
Keep up your turnings, and if possible show us some of your work, I think that would be great.
I'm sure you'll like this wonderful forum.

I agree. I've been reading your posts "between the lines" for a while, and wasn't aware of the extent of it. (Hickory's been a member here longer than me, Ad.)

One of my local WT club's members is legally blind, and his favourite tool is the skew chisel. Can you imagine that?! Guys like you and him are inspirations to those of us who only have to adapt to our minor INabilities, without DISabilities.

Have no means to inspire as every time I get down on myself, I see a fellow who wishes he had ONLY my problems. was not some poetry once (I am poor on rememberances)

Hi Guys, Its great to hear about people with disabilities doing things that most people take for granted, its inspirational to hear about you guys that take it one step further.

When I lived in Weipa, a guy called Dave Barr came to our area as part of his world tour. What he has done is truly amazing.
I read one of his books ("Riding the edge") that he sent to a friend of mine, it's an incredible story.
