Hi Folks,
i'm currently part way through planning an automatic sliding gate for the front of our place
At this point i have just been chasing up quotes for the gate frame (anyone under steel fabrication in the yellowpages)
what i have found astonishing is that very few guys seem to have an idea of what the standard size/thickness of steel to be used on this gate frame is ??
i have received quotes anywhere between $350 and $1088 simply for a 3250 x 1750 rectangular (first picture) galv steel gate frame (unpainted, non-dipped)
would anyone be able to give me what the "standard" (if there is one as such) thickness should be on the steel used for a sliding gate
and even if possible if anyone has a rough idea of what a decent cost would be for something like this.
i can source the 2.5mm thick galv steel for $380 (with approx 4m of scrap leftover - as it comes in 8m lengths)
and 3.0mm thick for $430 (also with 4m of scrap)
- have figured it may be worth getting a friend with a welder to have a bash at it
the frame will be clad with 1 sheet of 3250 long corro steel
and 10 lengths of 64 x 19 stained hardwood
(second picture)
cheers
