Good points

- very cheap rates
- all-meals-included deal is on balance reasonable value (but see below)
- bread rolls and sourdough to die for
- bushwalks
- golf, the course is reasonably well maintained if only to a public Local
Council standard (the greens are rough and uneven, but mowed and playable)
- snorkelling, there is true coral off the beach and at Paddle Bay, and even
the odd crayfish, although water visibilty can be poor
- fish feeding, the batfish are a lot of fun
- free surf skis or "kayaks" as people call them
- pool, large and a good temperature
- free snorkelling gear, stinger suits and golf gear
- drinks reasonable for resort standards, light beer $5, bourbon & cola $6,
wine by the glass $6
- room fan and A/C were efficient and quiet
- hot water and water pressure good

Bad points

- facilities very run down and seedy, badly maintained (our bathroom door
fell off the wall)
- no phone or radio in the room even though guest info refers to them
- many advertised facilities did not exist, and had obviously not for some
time. The advertising for South Molle really describes some other island
(waterfall spa broken, kids club closed, archery not working, no banana boat
rides, no tube rides, massage room closed, no glass bottom boat, no knee or
wake boarding, no speedboat rides, no jet skis)
- queen mattresses would not do credit to a hostel for homeless men (we
talked to others to check this)
- meals had very good variety, but were almost always luke-warm
- food supplies were sometimes not renewed when they ran out, even early in
the sitting (be early!)
- much of the lighting around the resort paths, jetty, and pool was not
working

The island as we saw it suits those who are looking for a budget holiday,
and who are not concerned about a few loose bits here and there. Young
children would be hard work, with no facilities and no activities.

Our information from talking to staff is that the island is now owned by
Koala Adventures, who are closing it in Feb 09 for a lick of paint and a
fitout with bunk beds, and it will be turned into backpacker island they
told us, so be well informed before going there. You will need to get lots of info. Ring them and check any specific concerns.
