Hi all.

Purchased these mortise chisels recently on ebay.

They are from the U.S.A., and are old warehouse stock, in unused condition.

Sizes are 1/8, 1/8, 3/8, & 3/16.

Unfortunately they are an extremely collectible brand, and you have to pay decent money to obtain them.

Decent investment. Will re handle them, and then make up a cedar box to store them in.

You say they are collectible? Although mine are socket style, I have a drawer full if Swans that I have layed off restoring.

I used to use them a lot as they are so easy to sharpen and still hold an edge forever.

Hi Hickory.

Whether socket or tanged, Swans still sell for a very good price. Like most things sold through Ebay, condition is still a vital factor to the final price.

In effect, you have answered one of the main reasons they are so collectible. Quality.

The steel used by Swan for their chisels, was extremely good, and that's the reason they hold their cutting edge so well.

The other reason of course, is availability. I think from memory, Swan stopped manufacturing around 1950.

It is a worthwhile project, to restore the Swan chisels you have.
