View Full Version : The ultimate list of non-aussie pen kits

Right,

So this will be a work in progress. I will update as people feed more information.

This is the list of penkits I have found on US sites that I haven't seen on Aussie sites. I've ignored pens which looks substantially the same as our kits and just have different names, or very minor variations. I haven't gone through every US supplier or Australian, just those I know are popular, so may have missed some. I may also have accidentally doubled up, but I hope not. I've listed the kits under the companies I first found them also. Finally, I'm looking at mostly normal pens & pencils, and have left out keyrings, letter openers, perfume kits etc.

Please post any corrections and I will update the list.

Good idea Russelll. This is the sort of thing that could go into a library - if we had one!!

My understanding is that some US pen kit suppliers will not post to Aus. The only way you can get their kits is via a friend in the US.

Arizona Silhouette is one that will no longer post to Aus. Most of their pen kits are Berea ones and Ernie at Beartooth woodworks is another Berea reseller. You can also order direct from Berea. The main advantage of ordering from a reseller seems to be the blanks available from some of the resellers.

Craft Supplies USA also have a large range of unique kits.

What a good Idea ! if only we had cross matched bushings as well hehe, I have managed to end up with some extras because of not being able to size them with existing bushes before hand :) Mostly make my own now. Although truth to tell takes longer to make them ,than the few dollars most of them cost :)

There is a list running around somewhere of the bushing sizes for the various kits. Must admit I only do a few different styles of kit so it's not too hard to keep the bushing sorted out and I haven't bothered with the list though.

Some of the Arizona Silhouette pens, the Baron comes to mind, are not available from Bear Tooth Woods.

Ernie at Bear Tooth Woods sells the Perfect Fit as well as AS, and he (very cheerfully) ships to Oz, unlike AS.

Be aware that bushing sizes can vary for the same kit name from different manufacturers, eg Sedona from Berea has different bushes to Sedona from Dayacom (DAMHKIT)

Seems to me if you are going to copy someones name and style, you should have the same size, or at the very least make people aware that they are different when they buy the kits!

A though just occured to me...
(no, it didn't hurt, but it was a strain and I scared the house cat)
If you do plan on sending a kit or two that way, you might include the correct bushing for that paticular kit..(read the post above) as a "bonus" ...

My intent wasn't to list everywhere we could get kits into Aus, just for the kits themselves. Listing with the suppliers is simply an easy was of ctaloguing what I may have missed. AS stated above, friends in the US can help obtain things that can't be sent directly here, although obviously there is additional cost then.

If people think it is of more value to list only those we can get shipped, or indicate that as well, I could do some updating, although that may take a little longer.

Nevermind, I found Lau Lau woodworks.

Is his Havana and Retro the same as something else? That retro at least seems to have a unique cap end. Can anyone confirm?

Russell.

PS - And the pocket pen??

Russell, I only stated that BTW sells the Perfect Fit as well as AS, because you listed it under AS and they don't ship to Australia.

I am indeed aware that one can get stuff from AS via a friend in the US, have done so before now, I am also aware that there is additional cost the, rather stating the obvious isn't it?

Didn't see "fisher of men" and "poker" sierra on the list. I can't find them here down under. I have sourced them from Woodpenpro in Hawaii. I know that they are only sierra's but I sell as many of them as I do all others put together. Just my two cents worth.

Yup, which is why I put "obviously" in my comment.

Obviously if I said "obviously" then it's obvious :q

Updated as per everyone's comments, I think.

Ahh OK found it now. Not called Sierra's. Given it's only the band difference, I'm in two minds whether to list it. I will, but then there may be some other kits which are substantially the same between resellers, but slightly different designs, which I haven't identified.

I understand where you are coming from Russ, just thought I would mention them as they have significant meaning to some members of the community.(not the poker one) They are two tone Chrome titanium and dressed in bethlehem olive wood with auth cert just go crazy in the right places. I didn't even know the existed till a little before Christmas and literally couldn't make enough. Great job on the list. You have done a wonderful job in such a short time.

Thanks. I've added them in, some Berea ones and a couple of other updates.

I put in the Berea computer pen, as it's fairly unique and hard to substitute. But should I then put in theiri mother of pearl/abalone pens? What makes that any different to some of the special blanks then?

So I left those couple out. But then I got to thinking. What about the Lazer puzzle pens. That's really just a blank, but special ones not many people can get hold of any other way? I left them out as well though, because if I add one unique blank, do I have to add all of them? I almost feel the puzzle kits should go in the list, but then....

Urgh, think I'll stop for the night. Getting a headache thinking about it. Anyone else got suggestions where to draw the line??

Hi Russell,

Forgive me if I'm hijacking your thread... feel free to tell me to bugger off and I'll set up a new one referencing your first list.

What's everyone's thought on the quality of these kits? I've only used Berea and have been very happy with their quality.

Thanks,
Nathan.

*BUMP* for someone who might be looking for this thread.

Also, with some of our local suppliers getting new kits soon, I'll try and update this when that happens, or start a new thread, since I can't edit the original, or cry to a mod, or something......

Hey Russell,
Maybe this thread should be made in a sticky so that it stays at the top of the list. Saves you having to bump it up the list all the time.

From our point of interest a list of Aussie only pens would be nice.

Hey QC,

The list wasn't meant to be a definitive list of all non-aussie suppliers, just a list of kits, and the fist place I found each of them, hence why not all suppliers are listed. A quick glance didn't show me anything unique there, but I will double check.

I did originally think of listing the Aussie kits too, but didn't want to overlod the post with too much information. Maybe I'll get DJ working a bit harder and reformat the whole thing, or start a second list :)

Just looking at your list of pens and i believe that several of the pens you have listed on your list are available in australia.
Mark from 043 turning in Newcastle has a good range of pens from what i have seen at the wood show and also at Maitland markets when i go. Although not as big as some of the other companies i see he stcks a lot more varieties than alot of others.
By the way while i am giving him a free plug has everyone seen the metre long lengths of acrylic blanks that he has just imported in. check out the link below
