Is it just me or does NG Rosewood hold toolmarks really well? I've been sandpapering for HOURS!

Hi Eliza,
I am using some at the moment making boxes, tool marks don't seem to be a problem but borer holes and grain filling is. Still ...looks good and smells nice.
Cheers

How sharp are your tools Eliza?

i would suggest shear scraping or new sandpaper. I've not turned ng rosewood before but i can't imagine it being too hard to get tool marks out of.

:whs: I found this to be very critical on NG rose wood more so if you are on the end grain... a good sanding sealer can help

I have being turning NG rosewood a fair bit lately (because my arborist friend drop a truck load of to me:U) and I have not had any trouble.
As a few have already said sharp tool and a good speed is the secret.

I found New Guinea Rosewood to be very easy to carve and cut and finish. I haven't tried turning it yet, but expect it to respond just as well to turning tools. However, I have recently read that rosewood is particularly nasty to your health so please be careful when sanding on the lathe and take appropriate precautions.
Cheers,
