Scotty, visit any number of router bit suppliers sites where they show the profile of the router bit and an explaination of its use.

Here's just two:

Gday WM, second DPB sources of info. Is that what you require, or back a couple of steps on the learning curve?
A router rotates a router bit at high speed and removes wood in the shape of the portion of the router bit which protrudes from the base. This can be seen (pref. while switched off! ) by turning the tool upside down & sighting along the base as you rotate the bit by hand. You can vary the routed profile somewhat by changing how far the bit protrudes through the base, and by using a side fence, straight edge, or other means to position the router relative to the edges on your workpiece.
The router can also be used upside down in a router table which opens up a whole new topic.
A google search on router will bring up heaps of info, also there are a heap of router books for sale out there, some of which your local library may have available.
Good luck with it, it's a very versatile tool.........cheers........Sean
