Hi Guys,

I have no idea as to what the device I have been asked to make is called, it's basically a hot food stand. It's for putting hot food containers on dining tables (so they don't burn the table) :confused: :confused: . Anyway, I will be making this out of some cleaned up jarrah garden stakes and would like to know two things.
Firstly, is Neil's book available as an of the shelf item, and where in Adelaide?

Secondly, ( and I may not need the answer to the this if there is an answer to the above), what would be the best way to finish something that will have hot metal pots placed on it? :confused:

If you are looking for a design for your "trivet", here's one that I made last year. It looks good and works well. I finished this with a little vegetable oil.

I once made one using scrap slate from the kitchen floor leftovers. I used a piece of 12 mm marine ply, trimmed the edges with mitred jarrah I moulded on the router table and then cut the slate and made sort of a mosaic. The women seemed to like it but I thought it looked like something my 3 yo made. Sorry don't have a photo.

DPB, how is the vegetable oil holding up to hot dishes being placed on it? and do you recomend making more than one "trivet".

The oils seems to be holding up OK.

I ended up making a dozen (metric +2). The dovetail method I used mandates a mini production setup. :)
