Nice one! I tried drawing a bowl in sketchup and it's didn't go as well as I thought it should...

I'll give this one a go. How do you find using it?

Have only just started to play with it Dave.

Will compare his algorithm for a catenary curve with my old fashioned manual method.

I might be able to draw it OK, but as for turning the same shape on the lathe, well that's another thing.

well for me its a fun tool and I can see it will have its uses, dunno how much use it will be for me. But will keep playing with it to see what its capabilites are.

Without a printer, it's hard to check any output. But it'd be nice if it hd an option to display a grid against the curve, so one could make measurements directly off screen.

Still, it looks interesting and I'll be keeping an eye on it...

Yes, that suggestion has been made to Bill Skew.

Also metric grid, finer grid option, resizable editor window to match a trued blank etc.

Here's some details:

You may want to first delete your old version to avoid confusion --
delete the link on your desktop, and then with the Java control panel
delete the old version of the software.

Improvements include:

* Scale the printed view to fit on the page, select landscape/portrait/
automatic

* Grid on the outline editor window, and ability to change the grid
size.

* Scale the printed outline for very small or very large pieces.

* More options to set the size (height, diameter, proportional,
stretch).

* Choose inches/cm for all you metric folks.

* Preferences window to set some things (and save them).

* Saved file now has dimensions in inches/cm, saves grid size, certain
preferences, bowl color.

* Window contents scale as you change window size.

* Other small things

I've updated the User Manual, so you'll want to download a new copy of
that. There is also a Version History that you can download to see the
details on what has been added/changed.

There is also a bunch of examples that you'll find useful to see ways
of adding finials, bases, and ideas for shapes. This also provides a
good selection of starting points for your work. They are all saved in
a zip file (after downloading, double click to un-zip them all in a
directory).
