Carba-Tec Dovetail Jig

Just had a look at the 2009 Carba-Tec catalogue.

They have a dovetail jig that looks remarkably like the Gifkins jig minus some bells and whistles at about half the price.


Does this look like the equivalent animal to you?

That is a Keller dovetail jig, been around for years, patented etc. The photo seems to be deliberately misleading, making it look like the Gifkins. All the photos on the Keller site show the jig being used with a hand held router and the board clamped in a vise, not 'upside down' on a router table.

Each model of Keller jig does ONE size of through dovetail, and is not restricted by length. All you get for your money is the black plastic (or aluminium in the 'Pro' models) - you supply the backing board, screws etc

The Gifkins, from what I have seen, is limited in the length of the boards it can dovetail. You buy different sizes of template but use the same backing/clamping unit for all the templates, and it intended for use ONLY on a router table, not freehand.
