I am at the end of a 1/2" bowl gouge, and have ground down part of the top so the grinding jig slips down over it easier. In short while, not much will be left, grind it to a round skew or something else? Any other ideas?

You could grind it to a 3 pointed tool or a round nose scraper

How attached are you to it?

New gouges are cheaper if they come unhandled and as you now have a spare handle, more or less... :D

As Skews says buy a new unhandled gouge for the handle and if your not sure what to do with it, stick on the shelf till you figure it out. One thing it would make is a darn good oland type tool bit

That begs the question "how do you dismantle without wrecking the handle?"

Should just drive off. Try putting the tool in a vice and drive the handle off using a hammer and about 300mm of 50 x 25 as a "punch" on the handle beside the remains of the gouge. That has worked for me in the past.
