I read with interest the comments in a thread on the merits of Blackwood
bieng the proud owner of three of the bowl blanks that Ern was good enugh to get,cut and send on to some of us
I was not sure what I was in for but takeing on board all the comments about no scrapers, sharp bowl gouge only sanding at low speeds:((:((:((
I decided to give it a go and I am now a total fan,,,, it is a bit hard and I may still have a few marks on the inside surface of the bowl but I am one happy camper and I still have 2 to go:D:D
Thanks for your effot Ern
Look forward to your comments

BB Tea Lady is definitely right - the wood has no character and doesnt really have a place for wood workers.:smack::youcrazy::screwy:

Nice work BB. Good to hear about the blanks.

The pile has some contrasting grain that shows clearly in your bowl. Good to see some chatoyance there too.

Graham, verrrry nice bowl, unknowned woodspieces for me, so I don't can tell anything about this wood, but seeing the results, I can only wish that I had some of this wood.
Great job.

BB, exceptional blackwood bowl. Didn't notice the Chatoyance that Neill spoke of, 'til I looked the second time. Well done. Like the extra treatment at the bottom, too!!

Very nice work BB, i particularly like the raised lip round the base giving the effect of a bowl sitting in a bowl.:2tsup::2tsup:
