Hi
Does anybody own either the Jet 1220 or 1014vs if so , Do you have any opinions

I was looking at purchasing one of these as a portable lathe when I go walkabout , I have a WL38 Biggie but it's too big and heavy to take on trips etc I wanted something I can move without have a forklift and 4 mates

I was concerned about the difficulty of Speed changes on the 1220 { the EVS has spoilt me }

Cheers
Glenn

Glenn, the woodworking group I have become involved in , has the 1014 and it is a nice, smooth little lathe for small spindle turning, but I didn't need to change speeds. My home lathe is an old Teknatool TL 8S.

According to the Jet cattledog the lathes you are interested in weigh: 1014I/1014VSI 30 Kg and the 1220 45Kg. So still not a 1 man lift.

I have the VS except for the on off switch trouble i had no problems otherwise once they changed the Magnetic switch to toggle switch all is well.

I do find that the 10 inch swing is actually only 9 3/4"

others have had alignment troubles with both these machines especially with pen making

i have the 1220. I think it's a great little lathe. In my opinion it's worth it for 3/4 hp. Then again i got it before the price went a bit silly. It doesn't have electronic variable speed but it's easy enough to change speeds on. I read somewhere that evs causes a slight loss of power to the spindle so maybe do some research into that before deciding.
