This is the second bowl I've made now, really starting to like it:U. The wood is from an old red gum sleeper. Before I turned it was completely grey but as I started turning it the red colour began to appear. It’s 160mm wide and sanded to 1200 and finished with shellawax cream.

Nice peice of wood - bet the railways blokes didnt realise what was hidden when they laid it years ago. Great job.

You've done well mate.
Redgum is and will always be my favourite.
The variety of figure and colour along with the density of the stuff is great, especially for bowls. It's readily available and cheap as well! (For us in oz anyway..)

I consistently get more 'wow' factor from people when I give them items turned from redgum.

Congrats TS amaizing what you can find under a bit of grey peace of wood.

Beautiful job. I have a red gum house stump my son gave me. Hope what I make from it looks as nice as your bowl. :2tsup::2tsup:
