Alternative Timber

:? I am building a strip built kayak from paulownia the major component, but I am looking for a different timber as a contrast. I have seen western red cedar and thats ok but I was looking for an Aussie timber thats readily available light weight and not to expensive ( the KEV money is running thin that is if I had received mine yet) Anyone got any clues?

western red cedar is pretty cheap up here only thing is max length i can get is 2.3m and in most sizes, up to about 250x45..........................bob
