Finally finished the platter, had a few interruptions that slowed down progress. Couple of small hiccups but it turned out better than I thought it would. Fairly happy with this one. Mostly Queensland maple with ash and black walnut rim. The inner pattern is yellow walnut red cedar and black walnut. 310 mm diameter and 30mm high.

A wonderful turning Jim.
The detail and the choice of material makes this a spectacular piece.

Most impressive indeed Jim. I'd love to get an idea of your assembly technique.

Jim, great job.

The Victorian chapter might have to fly you down for a demonstration of how you do the segments!

Whoohoo, what a beauty.
It reminds me of a kaleidoscope image.

Can't imagine how you worked all that out.

Very very nice

I also would love to know the technique ... and where do you get the patience?

Looks great from here Jim! Would love to see some larger, closer upper pictures. I think it's more about persistence than patience. You just keep on keepin' on until you finally get there. Much of the work is actually tedious and repetitive, but you keep on, perhaps driven by your vision of the end result. Just a thought.

Jim, you are a marvel. I gotta win the lotto to bring you down for a month or so. A week for machining wood, another for glue ups..... Two weeks of turning.

Plus a heap of $ for freight on some of that great Qld timber.

Don't hold your breath though! I aint that wealthy.

Just keep posting and I and others will continue to gasp.

I know it's a big ask, but some step-by-step pics would be great. Add it to the forum knowledge bank.

regards Jeff

wow! Spectacular as always!

I think I'm going to have to try a very simple one - there's no way I could cut with that degree of accuracy repeatably. Maybe one day...

Dave
