I turned up this banksia nut a while ago and left it sitting on the shelf until I got inspired to complete it. So today I stuck it back in the lathe and hollowed it out with a 54mm forstner bit straight up through the base. Then I made an oversize countersink bit to hollow out the tapered part between neck and body ( pic5) and drilled out the neck. Next I made a base and fitted a very large blue LED, a battery pack and a switch. Then I turned a cork for the top and a little knob for switch. Finished with a spray on clear lacquer. SWMBO loves it.
My photography does it no justice as usual:((
