hi guys have been asked to make a shoe horn but dont know where to find one and not sure what timber to use to take the everyday strain of use

Troy...any kind of wood that has straight grain (oak for instance). Cut thin strips, laminate the strips over a form.
Should be plenty strong for a shoehorn :cool:

thanks ed but i think this person wants one with metal shoe horn and turned handle like doing a cutlery handle

OK...I see what your getting at. Maybe find a shoehorn at the local Wal-mart, strip off the handle portion, then turn the custom handle. Any one of a number of beautiful woods you blokes have in Oz should fit the bill.

Post a pic if you get it done.

Might be worth trying " [email protected] ([email protected]) " for the metal part. They are a company at Goomboorian, outside Gympie QLD and I have a feeling I have seen the part in his catalogue.
