Hello all.

I'm brand-new to this forum - much like my lathe is to me.
I was hoping that some south aussies could clue me in on
the best places to by chisels and wood. I've been messing
around with my starters kit and scrap wood, but I feel like
treating myself to a nice big chunk of wood and a good chisel
or two to cut into it with. Any places in the south would be ideal.

Thanks all,
Kes

Hi Kes

For chisels, try Mik International (http://www.mik.com.au). For wood, try Otto and Co Timber Merchants at 5 Ann St St Stepney 5069 (08) 8362 3522 (they are not cheap!).

Kes, Mik also have turning blanks of various species.
Don't forget the Adelaide Timber & Working with Wood Show at the end of this month. Lots and Lots of Lovely Wood on sale! (Can't wait, come on tax return! :D)

Hi & welcome Kes,

Leda is also another good place just down on Richmond RD, Richmond I think.
They have chisels & also all other woodworking goodies. Otto's is good for fancy/exotic timber. MIK are great also, always good service. If your down south some of the furniture shops & also the recycled building supply people about have some nice big slabs that may be of interest.

Cheers

Woodchuck
