I have seen on the Inventors show many years ago a machine that was made in Perth for routing out for door furniture and door mortice locks
Does anybody know of the machine

Makita (and I think one other company also) still make a portable chain mortiser for fitting mortice locks. They are very heavy but not super noisy like the router type.

Here is a picture out of the Carbatec Catalouge of the funky expensive Porter Cable one that Soundman was writing about.

DPB,
that's a jig for mortising hinges, what bosbuilder is after is a method for morticing in locks. Most domestic and lots of commercial building uses cylindrical locksets which only require a holesaw hole to fit them into. These mortices are quite deep and pretty close to the door's face so any router based machine needs to have a rock solid clamping and adjustment system to prevent the whole thing jumping around and chewing up the door.
