Pine Cone Pen

Hi y'all,
I do not often turn pens, except for gifts to Veterans. Then I volunteered to make a turning as a prize for a "Tea Party" gathering on July 3. What to make??? A large Georgia Pine Cone fell a few feet away, and it answered that question. This is just a simple Slim Line pen kit using the core of a Georgia Pine Cone in place of wood. Thin CA glue firmed up the brittle Pine Cone core, and provided a surface finish as a bonus.

There are 104 Long Leaf Pine trees in our yard, and each is at least 110 feet (33.5 meters) tall. Pine Cones are plentiful here. :)

Ghee Gil, how came you on that idea, a pine cone. I use that stuff for firing up the fireplace.
It looks really very nice.

I too use Pine Cones to start my outside yard trimmings on fire in the pit. As for the pen idea, well, I cannot recall where I first saw the idea but I did not invent it. Prolly noticed it in a turning book somewhere. They do make unusual gifts.
