1920 Wood Carving
Hi all.
This is my first time in this forum. I hope I've come to the right place.
My friend found a wood carving on the side of the road (council cleanup)
It measures 1300mm x 300mm. I think its Tas oak, at least the frame is.
I'm no wood carver but I can see the extraordinary amount of skill, time and effort that must have gone into this piece. The amount of detail is amazing. There is a bit of damage where it was thrown out, but not much. I can't believe anyone would have dumped this magnificant Artwork.
The carvers initials are M. HEALE 1920.
Anyone out there heard this name before? Or know anything about it? Just seems a shame just to put it on a wall in the house. It seems good enough to be in a museum or at least somewhere on public display.
Slim

Relax, Slim. Treasure the posession = there may be no answer to your quest.
I have inherited a 4-figure totem pole. Seemed to be important that I get this thing. Obviously carved pre 1955, mid coast (Kwakwakw'Wakw) and exquistely done with no knive/gouge tool marks to be seen. About 2" x 2" x 30"
The paint is as steady as a rock. Not an Ellen Neal. Why this dang thing was so important, only the dead can tell me. After 4+ years of looking, I can't even find the carver.
So be it. Enigma. Mystery. Who knows? Some day you might bump into someone who can spell it out. In the meantime, showcase the thing as the mystery that it is!
