Default 1st 2 efforts at woodcarving - sculpture.

These are my 1st 2 efforts at this type of woodcraft . I`ve used a similar theme as living near the ocean seems a logical choice. Most of the woods come from my property which include Jarrah, Sheoak . Banksia wood and nuts , Marri , Blackbutt and for the octopus Blackboy or if you like Grasstree. The inlays or coloured pieces are recycled plastics and metals such as electrical cables ,knitting needles .plantpots .buckets ,copper aluminum and brass pipes wires and sheeting.

Nice work mate, but what really has me intreaged is how you got that octopus out of a grass tree.... I've got a few grass trees down around my area but I've never heard of anybody carving the stuff before. What I've seen of it, just falls apart. I know you can collect the hardened sap from the base of the spines after a bush fire an desolve this with metho to produce a form of varnish or shellac. I don't suppose you'd like to share the secret of carving this stuff?
