Today I'm going to rough out another rose bud on the lathe but I'm going to do it in maple .
I realize this will be harder wood to carve but it's the only other wood besides bass that is light enough to colour while showing off the grain.
So far here are the woods I've heard are great to carve.
fruit wood - since it's a softer hardwood , like plum, Apple , cherry
butternut - never used it
mahogany - never used it
walnut - is too dark
lime wood - never ever heard of it until yesterday
soft wood - pine - too sappy for my liking
QUESTION?????
What is your preferred wood?
Im looking for a good wood to carve but with some interesting grain patterns that can be seen through the colour etc.
Thank you

Nice carving
I would be proud to wear that in my hair.
But I've out grown my hair!
But it still looks fantastic tho [emoji106][emoji106].
