Advice about pin oak
G'day all,
I've been offered a 4 meter long by approx 1m diameter pin oak trunk. I've never worked with pin oak before so I've no idea if its worth the trouble of going to get it, getting it slabbed and put away etc.
Any body out there with some experience in this wood care to advise me?

At the wood school I attended last year a guy built a very nice hall table using pin oak. while it didn't have any grain that was eye catching it was easy to work and the finished result looked good. As it's likely you will get the boards for a very reasonable price I think it would be worthwhile because it would make a very good general woodworking timber.
