    Default Archangels

Have just posted my album of Archangels I was commissioned to carve. The larger ones range from 2 foot - 3 foot tall, while the smaller ones are just on a foot high and presented on a stand. Both St Michaels in armour were rejects. I have been told the orb in the photo was the fairies viewing my works. As if.

What a great body of work you have there

Perhaps you can tell us a bit more about the background to this commisiion and about yourself?

    Well done.

They've got a good feeling to them. Do you use a traditional gesso as a prime for the paint?

Thanks for the comments, should have joined here earlier. To Tinshed: the commission was for a Bendigo lady who believes in the Spirits and fairies, she is also studing ancient medicines and healings. I had never carved full 3D before but where there is a dollar on offer I will have a go, I had previously carved swords, wands and staff all inscribed with ancient symbols from the Solomon keys for her. I started carving about four years ago doing some mediocre relief carvings, taught myself wood turning and in general just have fun dabbling with wood. The larger archangels are now in her meditation roomand she told me she has been visited while meditating. In one of the photos you can see an orb which she believes is a fairy inspecting the carvings. I think it is bad photography on my part.

Very nice work. What kind of time does it take to carve one?

To altaciii: I didn't keep check of the hours as I had the four going at the same time.
I carved them in layers and working on one as the glue set on the others. At a rough guess it would be over 24 hours work on each plus painting.
Thanks for the comments CV3. To Iggy: What is wrong with fairy money?
To: F&E being a Victorian I don't get what you mean.

Nothing to worry about, Bob. I interpreted Iggy's comment as "from your description, Bob, your client has more her head in the clouds than her feet on the ground, so make sure that she pays you with real money." To which I replied "Yes Iggy, but if her head is too much in the clouds Bob must also ensure that he is not seen as taking advantage of her". This is my first translation from legalese to Victorian english, hope I have done it right.

What I meant was that as she believes (apparently) in fairies then fairy money is notorious for disappearing after the transaction. Mind you my money vanishes quickly without the help of the supernatural
