    Default Some more Aussie animals

Added some more animals to my stand, a possum in Jelutong stained, the endangered Bilby with the big ears in Camphor laurel and the lovable, cute, cuddly salt water croc in western red cedar. The stand is pretty much complete now, hope you like it.

Ha Ha Mike, It's called a Bilby, they are a little desert / bush dwelling marsupial and just one of many strange little animals we have over here but unfortunately their numbers are dwindling due to to the rise in feral cats and dogs among there normal predators like foxes snakes etc etc. They have a long thin face and snout and very large ears. You should come to Australia sometime and experience the natural beauty of the outback and it's wonderful wildlife.

Wow brilliant Rob! What a wonderful achievement. They're all absolutely delightful. Well done.

I've just acquired my first block of camphor laurel and I put a few chisel marks in it and WOW it cleared my airways better than vics. Working with it close to your face is it an issue or does the smell fade? How did you find carving it?

Chuffed to see you again RV.

Hi Germaine, I like camphor laurel, the smell doesn't bother me too much now but the first time I cut it, wow, I don't think the smell fades but you'll get use to it. I really enjoy carving with it although it's probably a little more crumbly that Huon, the light and dark grain is great for some animals. Look forward to seeing what you do with it. I got a piece of bass wood sent from USA just to try it, not sure what to carve with it yet.

These are all just lovely Rob! I very much appreciate the variety of wildlife you captured in your work. That Bilby is adorable. The different grains textures and styles make all of these very appealing. I think I'd like to get my sinuses cleared while carving. Lol ! The pattern on the crock is awesome and those eyes ....

Thanks Spiritwolfe, The Bilby seems to be the most popular so far, don't know if you can get get Camphor Laurel in Canada but that's the stuff to clear your sinuses while carving
