    Post Ballarat Lamp Posts

Maybe this will get a bit of interest going in this forum.
    ----------------------------------------------------------
Been to Ballarat in the last few years? Seen one of these monsters? There are a few of them around, down there.

Guess who did the carved paterns for the casting? Yep yours truely. Below is one of the acanthus leaf panels ready for sanding prior to painting and being used as the mould for casting. To give you an idea on size the carving is just short of 3 ft high.

Below is a photo from one of the local rags showing the size of the thing. I think there were around 8 or so of the poles cast. They were made at Bilmans foundary in Castlemaine 1989-90, don't remember exactly. The old-timers is creeping up on me.

I have found a heap more old photos that I thought were lost so will post some more when I get around to it.

    Cheers - Neil

The clone in the centre is one of the guys from the foundry the one on the left is a guy called Hayden a pattern maker from Castlemaine who did the patterns for everything that wasn't carved with fancy stuff.

's much more prity than that.

As always Neil, a tribute to your carving ability. I go to Ballarat to work every week, so next week I will look at those posts.
