time to step up!!!
ok now after the day i had yesterday and was talking to Raymond
we worked out that people in here have bean talking and talking but i dont see new work??
After Raymond had a look at my work(well not to get a big head)
but it seams i can hold my own with most people,
And leave others looking saying
(you did this?)(but only old people do wood carving and your not old)
so time to see what everyone out there has got
so i say we post some work and run a poll for say a week??
and let the people pick there carver
now i think if i try i can get some free stuff to give away

Ok, my 2 bob.
1) Spirit is right, the field of potential contestants is small, and we pretty well know how good everyone is. You could start handing out the prizes now.
2) Personally, to participate I would want a 3 months deadline. Unless I am allowed to get someone else to power rough the blank for me.
3) If you are interested in an informal challenge, no prizes, just the few of us pitching our brains against a predetermined quantity of the same timber for the honour of showing our work to the masses and seeing what our popular appeal is, I am happy to organise it, no problem. This way Underfoot won't win anyway, too intellectual for the masses.
4) An alternative, if they agree, would be to make the sculptor Underfoot and the carver Neil the counterbalancing judges of everybody else... we must find a more reliable way of presenting the details of the work, though. If that were the option chosen, I would be happy to donate the timber for the honour of being the third judge... the mecenate.
Gee, I am having fun. Must stop grinning or I will become permanently disfigured like the Joker.
The ball is in youse court.

my 2 boobies
l love the idea ,had great fun with olive contest ,didn't see the pelett one until it was to late
so how can we carvers 10 or so active members get the masses like the joiners and turners to join in
it would be a bit sad if there were only 20votes and 5 or six carvers
how about we don't give it the best carving how about the best W.I.P thread with photos mmmmmmmmmmmmmm me like photos
frank is right give them 6 months and a few may think about joining in ,maybe theres a theam something deeeeeeeeeeeeeep................... ummmmm life as a voise dub overer for vidios
hay NZ frank is good at this stuff and what timber may we be talking about Frank
hay NZ we all have seen your work and very good it is ,your carving type what u do u do well the best on the forum by far but underfoot is bloody good and makes a liveng from it and so he should be let the games begin
l think l could give you a good run for yu moneysmile and the world will smile with you

Wow love both of those but the castle really strikes a note, I'll show one of mine when I get a moment (although it made of clay). I'll be in this challenge if we get a bit of time to work, like Spirits WIP idea. What about mostly wood pieces? (my latest stuff is going to have a clay core).
