Want to get back to some real dark side stuff. Anyone know a good place to get Basswood in SE Queensland. Or some other good carving wood. Preferably thick stuff

If you really, really want to carve basswood, 'Tilea americana' you will have to phone home. Basswood is not to my knowledge, grown, imported or sold in Australia. The last piece I carved was originally brought in to Australia to build the Sydney Opera House organ and was in excess of requirements. However in Australia we have a number of timbers that are vastly superior to Basswood ( personally I think Basswood is only about 1/2 a small step up from Balsa ) Try White Beech, Huon Pine , Red Cedar , Rosewood,Myrtle and lots more...aren't you lucky you came to Oz?
