    ...yep..all of that..
I do a bunch of carving workshops for folks..(mostly experienced turners or furniture makers)..
..I always start with drawing...I always expect about half the class to say..."I don't draw ..but look at what I can make without drawing"..
..many are retired professionals and very clever and get all academic about the reasons they can't or don't need to draw..
..it usually takes about 20 mins to convince them that they can...and there carving will be better for it...
..no one I know has ever spent time drawing and their carving has suffered..

what if the hokey pokey is really what it's all about?

I don't have logs and I've never used a chain saw. I need a wood carving work bench for rough-out adze work. Very heavy, low and very stable.
With a clear concept, I sat down yesterday to make a dimension drawing to show a couple of potential builders.
Thinking about what I'd posted here, I was aware of the little "push" thing that I do in my head to switch to right side processing.
I was finished in a few minutes. Refreshing. Got what I needed.

Undie, I imagine that it comes very easily for you to translate an idea to the wood. The variety never fails to amaze me.
Also, there's a "completed" or "finished" look so consistent in your work. I don't have that sort of sensibility. Maybe some day!

I'm really only ever comfortable when I'm carving something that I can "see" in the wood. Sometimes it happens frequently,
sometimes weeks go by with nothing. That has to be some sort of right-side functioning.

Summer is here, the veg garden is coming up, I have a fair set in my grapes.
Winter was hard. I'd better get out again today and make the most of it.
