Bjorn Tudrink - a Viking
A Chris Hammack rough out, carved during his class at Renegade Woodcarving Rendezvous last month in Tennessee. Old Bjorn is really a nice guy and not a blood-thirsty savage at all: he even got a tattoo to prove it! I finally got enough time to begin painting what I carved at RWR - this one is the first. This character is know as a bar-fly. Chris has a whole series of these small figures that appear to sit at a bar. http://chrishammackart.com/barflys/">http://chrishammackart.com/barflys/

Carving to me is a little like playing guitar. I would love to have the skills to be able to sit down and churn something out like this but I struggle to find the time and motivation required for the years slowly building up the skills.

Great work Claude. Inspired idea for a theme... 'bar flies'. I haven't looked at the website you posted yet but I can imagine all kinds of potential there.

Hi SS... There is no doubt that you have to want it as any physical skill takes practice which is driven by motivation. Having said that, and being both a guitar player and a whittler/carver, I have to say that its a lot easier to reach a level of competency with whittling.
I'm demonstrating at Adelaide Carbatec this Saturday morning 8:30 to 12:30 if you want to talk about it.

Thanks for the kind words! Please do check out Chris's website - I guarantee the bar flies will give you a chuckle, particularly the female ones.
