    Default Brown Pelican

Just to show you that I do sometimes carve something other than Santas, here is a Brown Pelican, the Louisiana State Bird. He stands about 160mm tall, including the base, and is carved from basswood, painted with acrylic paints.

Love it! This idea works well as a hiking staff capper but with the pelican fully reclined so his legs don't show. The legs wouldn't survive the wear and tear.

Got it! The bird's posture is just right. The post is OK but just a little bit too nice. My summer house was just a few miles down the daily flyway
from the biggest white pelican rookery in inland North America. By my estimate, 1/2C per flush.

    Thumbs up

Didn't get to see one while we were in your neck of the woods!

I'll take your carving as a good representation!!

Its actually possible with both staff and stick styles... not the best, but possible...

Nice looking stick topper (rest of stick looks good, also)!
