Default Wanted: someone to carve giant mushrooms

How do I find a woodworker with a nice feel for organic lines?

What I'm hoping for is someone who could make and lend or sell me some wooden mushrooms for a unique balcony garden exhibition. I hope to arrange some ingenious, quirky balcony displays in time for the Sustainable Living festival in February (Melbourne)

Click on this link to see photos of what I'm after: giant wooden mushrooms I fell in love with in Japan, but could not bring into Australia.

Please enjoy my balcony gardening blog too. Creative balconies need creative woodworkers, and I've lots of gadget ideas that need to be made by somebody.

    looking forward to good things,

Default Cost of amazing wooden mushrooms

I paid $800 and $400 for the big and small (=less big) mushrooms, retail, in Tokyo.
Hopefully I will get something with a similarly enchanting line to them, and be able to charge a similar retail price to my own customers.
Otherwise, I could 'rent or borrow' them from the creator for photo shoots to appear in m magazine articles and festivals, if the carver is optimistic about publicity. I have no idea how that works for you guys, Im completly new to this, so feel free to gently educate and humor me.
I don't need them painted, as I will treat them the traditonal Japanese way, with 'Kakishibu'
    (a natural persimmon-juice wood preservative)

Hi Cecilia, I'm not too far from you and am creating carved gardens of sorts. Would be very happy to talk to you about creating/supplying mushrooms. Is the timber specific? Mostly working in Aussie hardwoods at the moment. Was also keen to have something in sustainable living expo but just missed the submission boat so maybe this is the reason.

Dats me. Although most of my stuff is indoor, I do use my cups mostly on the deck in summer.

    Default Persimmon Juice finish

    Beautiful mushrooms.

I was curious about the persimmon juice finish. It is made from fermenting unripe persimmons. You can see some pictures of things treated with it here. http://www.kakishibui.com/gallery.html Scroll down to see the wood items. I'd like to see some before and after treatment photos, but have not found much info.

    Hello Cecelia

If you haven't found a mushroom carver, you could look at this site. I saw the link on another post on this forum somewhere.
    http://www.brunosart.com/index.htm

It looks like he mainly does terracotta but there seems to be some nice wooden things emerging from tree stumps. Just guessing, but from the look of the things he already makes, he'd probably find your giant mushrooms very appealing.

    Good Luck
