    it's about 4x lifesize
Not much wood in it. Very nice though. Nothing academic to add.

Well, I am not qualified to say anything academic but the technique is flawless as usual.

Interested in starting a discussion about size? (it does matter...) For example, just looking at the photos, my gut feeling is to expect Artisano's piece to be 1- 1 1/2 metres tall standing on the floor and your face to be 50-60 cm long on a pedestal. Was this a consideration while you (plural) were creating them?

    thanks for the feedback folks,

I think size does matter F+E
hyper realist sculptor Ron Mueck uses scale to amazing effect
(check him out if you're not familiar with him)

the scale of much of my work is often based on available material and a very short attention span,
you're right though, the face at 450mm would not have as much impact if it were lifesize or smaller.

another consideration (although I hate to admit it ) is sales,
pieces of a certain size just sell better than others,

Thanks for the lead, I'll check Ron Mueck out. As regards

pieces of a certain size just sell better than others
the real question is why is it so? In other words, what is the reason for my gut feeling? It is the same reason that makes certain pieces more sellable than others? Is it something mundane as mentally correlating it to the height of the ceiling of the room where they are going to put it? Etc.

Great work, Underfoot-Deep Purple's album "Machine head" comes instantly to mind F&E- my piece is actually 75 cm. high, somehow looks bigger on the picture, but it's not....why bigger things sell better?- I guess little pieces look like toys...or just lack substance...don't know how exactly should I put it, but I woudn't start carving anything (when intended to be a sculpture) smaller than 60-70 cm.I've done smaller stuff- now I consider it to be a mistake
It's a slow and painful process...the secret is, dont mind the pain.(Ian Norbury)

I think when a sculpture is small, it is treated as an adornment to something else, ie an ornament on a sideboard etc. When a sculputure is large, it is a being itself, ie has a footprint and presence like the sideboard.

Good point. It might explain why a smaller sculpture seems to require a pedestal to be "itself". This does should not necessarily mean that the size of the smaller one is not "right" though, there must be other criteria.

...and, Spirit, I thougth you could read, not only look at the pictures...

    Thumbs up Sculpture

Sculptors continue to amaze!! the variety of shapes and forms is seeminly endless as is the imagination.
Love both of th epieces by Atesano and underfoot!!

Underfoot, I'm currently battling with som mechanical problems, so your piece is particularly appropriate!
