    Great idea for a thread

    This is the Wiz.

Carved him a few years back. Got the idea and inspiration from a FFW. The spiral fluting was the trickiest and i love his oversized hand, it gives a sence of power. I love carving

This is a very old Tassi Blackwood chair that was one of a set of 7.

It was definetly hand made as all the lengths and thicknesses were different. I was tickled pink the way it tirned out

Good idea for a thread Spirit.
Here's a close-up of something I've posted earlier, a Viking dragon's head I carved from silky oak, part of Loki's rocker. The fangs are cow bone, and the eyes are glass.

    Cheers,
    Andy Mac

Here's a larger scale carving I did some years ago...my first commission! It consists of 2 Euc. stumps dovetailed together, worked with a chainsaw, Arbortech, and sanding disc. Called 'the Apprentice' because the strong, young growth comes from the old, its up at the Workers Heritage Centre in Barcaldine. The first shot is during construction which took about 2 months; the other is in position at Barcaldine following a mega-road trip in mate's F100. Sorry about the quality, scanned from poor photos.

    Cheers,
    Andy Mac

Here is a repro of a very old repro Chipendale style mirror. I made two copys as the original was to be wrapped up and put in storage. Shame i didnt get a pic after it was polished and gilded. Its hard to see properly but their is an eagle carved into the top.

    Default in memoriam

My late father took up a bit of woodcarving as a hobby in his 60s and 70s. This is the one I prefer.

This is an ongoing WIP Just never seem to get around to finishing it.

Its a copy of a Figurehead of an old ship, and stupid me have forgotten the name of it.

its around 400mm (L) 200 (H) and the timber is Jelutong

    Great idea.

    This is my first carving.

It was done with considerable guidance from John Van Der Kolk at a weekend carving school at Neil Scobies.

The red cedar torso is about 500mm tall.

Shaped with band saw, arbortec, rasps, chisels and sandpaper.
