thanks, I must say first I'm resisting to shorten your name to undy, nah, footy, perhaps itchy, sorry I think it's a Australian trait to shorten names and add a y or o or a to the end. That out of the way, the tricycle came to be because I have always liked the shape especially of the older, simply made ones.
It's not meant to be nostalgic, I didn't have a tricycle and I can't remember knowing anyone else with one. I haven't really analysed why I made it, but its got something to do with a tricycle having been the the first mechanical means to get somewhere else, thoughts of the tentative first movement and the freedom it offered.

Two very good threads.
I like flicking through all the ideas and pieces.
My imagination needs lots of help.
Spirit I like the figures coming out of the timber. It adds extra interest.
Another WIP would be good Underfoot. I find seeing how someone progresses very useful. That ranting figure could be lots of people. I know the feeling too well.Scally

Thanks Arty??
I appreciate your interest in my fish.
You are showing more interest than me.
I have done more shaping and it wouldn't really take much to finish the carving.
My problem is 'deciding' how best to put it together with the weather dials.
Other projects have been easier to finish or work on and there are no shortage of distractions.
Maybe this weekend???
I'll keep checking these threads for inspiration.Scally

Thanks Spirit and Underfoot.
The Exhibition was at the Frankston Cultural Centre, Melbourne, Victoria, they kindly put it on for nothing except 10% commission on sales and I paid for food and drinks on opening night, it went for one month and all five out of eight works were sold. I had others there which were either not for sale (personal reasons) or had been sold before and included in the exhibition because they belonged to the group of work as a whole. I made about $2000 which was good but certainly didn't pay for the hours I put into it, actually if I worked it out I probably got about $1.50 an hour for the labour, but alas it was a labour of love so it didn't matter that much. I got alot of good feedback and later talked to a group of about twenty people about my work.
It took alot of work to get together as I work full time (and the rest) for someone else, so it took about three years of most weekends and two to three hours a night to do. I was exausted after all of it and took months to get going again. It was a strange feeling letting them go for mere money to strangers, like losing something of yourself but at least I now where they all are for now.
Since that exhibition I've gone to ground, and given away to family only, on occasions of birthday milestones and the birth of my nephews first child (the first great grandson of my mother). I'm now happy to take my time working on a few artworks, doing them well, with no rush and seeing where they take me. One of them will for some reason will include nine hundred hearts hand carved from Huon, something I can gradually do in little bits of time I get. I try to do twenty a week and I'm past the half way mark. I'm not actually putting the world on fire with my rate of production but it suits me at the mo. It would be good to devote to full on but it doesn't pay the dreaded bills and I like to look after my small family better.
The last image was influenced by seeing a television doco on some people in Chile (Sth America) who suspend huge fine fine nets on top of their mountains to catch the mist at night as their major source of water.
The base is Blackwood, you can't see it that well but the top of the base is the lighter sapwood which contrasts really well with the almost black heartwood.
I hope by showing you some of my artworks it helps to get you going with yor own work just like by seeing yours gets me going. Thanks for your interest, I got to go and do something now IT'S THE WEEKEND! see ya.
