Does anyone on here do any carving just for fun....you know, small figures, animals, caricatures, that sort of thing.........most of what we see here is pretty serious art type stuff.....anybody doing walking sticks, wood spirits????????

Yeah Blinky I enjoy just doing things for humour. I made a walking stick for my nephew after he had a bad rock climbing accident which cheered him up a bit. I've always got my eye out for those bits of wood that are straight for a good length then bend 90 degrees, I've got a huge collection of one so far . Small boxes are enjoyable to make too. I'll get some pics together.

amazing first time carving paddy, and in old red gum post, and mostly end grain as well .looking foreward to seeing some more.
Blinky, everything I make I get enjoyment from ,although , after about 6 hours of hand sanding I need to remind myself.
I still get the most fun making things for my kids, but as they get older they appreciate the more serious pieces. serious fun though

Blinky l love to carve l defently don't do it for the money (my hourly rate is sitting at 10c p/h )
l like to do wood spirits ,you can knock one out in no timesmile and the world will smile with you
