I used Titebond#3.
Suitable for outdoors and waterproof. Also cleans up with water and non stinky. I work at home in the garage so have avoided anything 'poxy'. I also don't mind the thin brown line it leaves which contributes a bit more to the contours.
It does however leave a slightly pinky/purple mark on this particular timber. Sands off well enough.
I could also carve after 30 minutes of clamping. Perhaps not recommended, but time was against me.
