Thanks! I like the idea , now all I need is a ... workshop -not sure about hot glue - I will probabli fix the work with my carvers screw to some piece of wood, and then bolt that piece to the ball

I should have mentioned that most of the roughing out for larger pieces is done in the superjaws with soft wood jaws, (pic)
by the time I hot glue the piece to the ball most of the really heavy stuff is done,
but you can still give the piece a decent workout with mallet and chisel, the arbortech, die grinders etc, the hot glue so far has never released before I wanted it to.

oh yeah, another thing I use a lot for holding odd shaped pieces with hot glue is a profile gauge, another must have IMO,
I'll take some pics and post them this arvo

    Hi, Underfoot, hows the surf?

Nz_carver , if the superjaws is too big, have you seen the latest carving vice from Kelton http://www.kelton.co.nz/carvers_jig.html

The design is great, well worth a look, I can't fault mine.

Looks great Inventor! Being able to set the work on horizontal or vertical is a big step up.

    oops, forgot about these
push gauge down on piece, mark line on scrap wood, cut out and hot glue to piece,
    clamp in vice, and carve.
to remove, hit with hammer , ( the scrap bit, not the carving)
and remove leftover hot glue with chisel, voila!

what if the hokey pokey is really what it's all about?

Yes Clare, while I can understand that carving jigs are not everyones cup of tea, believe me a lot of thought and design went into this one. The amount of postions are unlimited ( from vertical to up side down in one action) and everwhere in between. It really is unique. And the ball locks very solid.

Hello Underfoot, where did you buy the profilemaster, it looks bigger than most and better, somewhere in Coffs?
