Thanks! I like the idea , now all I need is a ... workshop -not sure about hot glue - I will probabli fix the work with my carvers screw to some piece of wood, and then bolt that piece to the ball

I should have mentioned that most of the roughing out for larger pieces is done in the superjaws with soft wood jaws, (pic)
by the time I hot glue the piece to the ball most of the really heavy stuff is done,
but you can still give the piece a decent workout with mallet and chisel, the arbortech, die grinders etc, the hot glue so far has never released before I wanted it to.
oh yeah, another thing I use a lot for holding odd shaped pieces with hot glue is a profile gauge, another must have IMO,
I'll take some pics and post them this arvo

Hi, Underfoot, hows the surf?
Nz_carver , if the superjaws is too big, have you seen the latest carving vice from Kelton http://www.kelton.co.nz/carvers_jig.html
The design is great, well worth a look, I can't fault mine.

Yes Clare, while I can understand that carving jigs are not everyones cup of tea, believe me a lot of thought and design went into this one. The amount of postions are unlimited ( from vertical to up side down in one action) and everwhere in between. It really is unique. And the ball locks very solid.
