like dingo said , cause I can't do hands and feet
Spirit, I loved your last piece, particularly when you explained it's story.,
many of your pieces seem influenced by a deeper meaning,
maybe for your next figurative piece (just as an excercise)
you could try to detach yourself from the work(I'm sure I'm not explaining myself properly)
what I mean is approach the piece as purely sculptural,
form, line, curves, volumes ,negative space etc.
check out some of the classics (aussies) Raynor Hoff, Barbara Tribe,
Norman Lindsay, etc and try and analyse what it is you like about a particular piece (not as easy as you might think)
cheers underfoot

I envy you Spirit for designing and carving such a complicated work.
I would not have known where to start without help.
Neil Scobie convinced me to go the a weekend carving course. After 2 days I had a good carving but it wasn't my design and I was really just joining the dots the talented teacher was placing.
I did learn some basic techniques and a bit of confidence.
Then I tried to carve another of his designs. I had to place the dots. A bit more confidence.
Another weekend school, bought a couple of books, shaped a rocking horse. I felt I could do simple carvings.
The snapper was my drawing but it is not much more than a tracing.
Maybe one day, with more practice and reading and watching others I might be able to design and carve.
You are well on the way.
I look forward to seeing your next work and I bet you will enjoy it even more.
Underfoot,
where can you get Raynor Hoff, "The Vital Flesh"? the Sydney Art Gallery?Scally
