Default Chainsaw carved Kookaburras (just for a laugh)

HI, just had to post these chainsaw carved kookas I finished in Emerald Vic. recently.
They are 5m tall in Peppermintr Gum.
I Included habitat holes for the possums and birds that used the tree before it had to be lopped.
    Hope they please

Another brilliant effort Mark! Your idea of carving trees in situ has given me some inspiration. Thanks again for posting this lot.

    Thanks again folks!
Hey Whittling, as a carver who's come from working small and fine - I have found that the hardest thing for me to let go of was "micro" prescision and get into a sweeping, almost painting, feel with a chainsaw AND being aware that it's guaranteed to split! Hope this helps

Fantastic Mark. I particularly liked Harvey's staff. Was that a single piece of wood?

I'm guessing the smaller pieces weren't carved with a chainsaw?

    All good stuph!

Hi Whittling, no - the staff was a stick with a knot hole and a lump of rot at one end which, when dug out formed a perfect void in which to insert the carved, requested curl. When he finds the right stone I'll put it in the knothole for him. Each of the other pieces are from piece of wood only.
Skew ChiDAMN!! Not with a chainsaw...but if you can find one the right size I'll give it a go....

Thanks for posting the extra photos. Lovely piece of work. Just out of curiosity, what sort of wood was the original staff?

I've only once found a piece of wood which was hollow for about one fifth of its length, of appropriate proportions and still strong enough to make a staff. Puzzled for ages what to do with it. Made a 'Ned Kelly' in the end. It was very early in my carving days so the carving itself was primitive but I was pleased with it at the time.

Sorry Whittling I have no idea of the wood used..it was one of a couple of sticks picked up in the forest by the 11 yr old "client" (he was hinting at a birthday present about 4 months early whilst on a walk with me..so I made him carry the sticks home
) It sat with the other sticks in my shed until the day before his birthday when I suddenly remembered that I said I'd make him one..I used it because it was the easiest and quickest way to apply a curl..as that was his main request (Harry Potter fan). the insert only goes about 10-15cm in. This was my first staff and I wasn't sure of it's longevity but it seems to be fine after a year with just the original coat of carnauba based oil..
