    Default wat tools do i need

    i want to start doing some carving but i have no idea were to start.

    first i need tools. right?

    and wood. i got plenty of that.

    and creativity. i think got that.

    and i can draw.

    please help

    Well, the picture's got the answer, mate - still, if you want to save some time, you could use some power tool( e.g. a router) before you start the actual carving:

    Carving Chisels, sharpening gear (Waterstones etc), patience, uninterupted time and lastly some artistic talent. I have the first two, can fudge the middle two, but the latter is non apparent

    Carving chisels (if they are curved at the end - gouges). Have a look at the woodcarving sections of Carbatec or borrow a book on carving from the library. Then you won't look like a chump.

    After you have an idea. And do not pay 100 bucks for a mallet, plenty of friendly turners will oblige for much less...

    $50 ????????

    i made a mallet ages ago it took me 15 mins it is made of ironbark and has nocked the dog tooth chuck into plenty of times into hardwood with out a dent.

    i should start making and selling them.
