    Hi,
    My Mrs came in waving that picture, she was outraged at the price but also said "don't you dare make one" then the next day my copy of Australian Handyman arrived with plans and instruction to make one.

    I've tried some of those 'shaved needle' Christmas trees on a smaller scale with a hand-held knife... with mixed success. If you get wood that shaves easily and straight and whose grain is EXACTLY parralelle with the edge of the timber block to begin with then its tedious but fairly straightforward. Anything else and its a recipe for going insane! I've yet to find a consistent source of wood that works here in Oz.

    BTW the same sort of wood works for fan-feathering with the same provisos...that the grain lines up with the edge of the starting block and that it shaves easily and straight. For feathering it should also be well soaked.
