    Default Cobra Walking stick.

Got given an old walking stick, not sure what type of wood it is, came from England. Inspired by Whittling's sticks I decided I'd cut the top off and have a crack at converting it. I carved the cobra head from Jelutong and stained it golden teak which came up quite a bit darker than the sample. Put a steel pin in the top as a guide and a bit of extra strength. Not really up to Whittling's standards but it was fun. Have posted a photo of the original stick.

Hi Rob. Nice one mate. Snakes are hard yakka... all those scales. You seem to like jumping in at the deep end! Not at all bad for your first go. Very credible effort. Well done.

Interesting transformation in turning waht seems to have been a sheeps crook into a deadly head on a stick Jelutong looks to be hard to work, sort of stringy or something

Thanks Whittling, it will probably be just a one off for me, only ended up with the walking stick by chance. I liked the idea of a cobra head but yeah
    not that easy.
Springwater, jelutong if not my favourite wood but it is easy to get in decent size blocks, it's a soft wood but you hit it too hard with a chisel it just comes off in chunks, I'm getting a little more used to it, others love it. Give me Huon pine or white beech any day but it's hard to get
