    Default Dan mask!

    Good day.
I'm new at this forum and i would like to show you a couple pics of a Dan mask i recently finished. It is a Deangle mask and I carved it out from softwood and darkened it with china ink and palm oil. To decorate it, I used rolls of cloth, cowrie shells, red fabric and a beard made of raffia. I tried to make something as similar as possible to the masks made in Africa. I hope you enjoy and please feel free to make any comments, critiques and questions. Thank you.

Nice piece. Without knowing anything about African tribal art, it looks very genuine to me. I imagine that the 'decoration' would have taken you as long if not longer than the wooden components took to carve.

Thank you very much Whittling. I am very glad to know that it looks like genuine. That was my goal. Not to mention the fact that I am not african descendant and I was born and live in Brazil. So I had a lot more work to find the materials to complete this mask satisfactorily. You're right, the decorations took a little longer than the carving to complete.
    Again, thank you.

    Regards

    Ricardo
