Its an interesting concept. I'm curious why you chose to make the horse head out of a separate piece of wood. The grain is pretty much parallel right across.

    Thumbs up

    Interesting project and looking good!

Where does the cardigan bit come in? Is it Welsh?

the cardigan refers to the style of the handle not sure of its origin
Basically its easy to form both head and handle separately. it will be easier also to fit the shank to the horn collar to get a good finish allowing easy polishing also allows a off cut to be used for the head

remodelled the head slightly so had to re- burn it . the buffalo collar and horn was sanded back with extra fine emery paper still needs a bit more work
Straightened the shanks using the system I knocked together a friend turned the wheels for me , it takes different thicknesses of shanks just use a heat gun to heat them up slot into the bender and just press it where it needs straightening takes a little time to heat the shank just need to get to uncomfortable to hold in hand then bend slightly till its straightened re heat it if necessary
