To me, it's still carving, whether one uses knives, gouges, angle grinders, chainsaws, etc.

You'll likely get faster wood removal with your angle grinders and/or Arbortech stuff than you will with a Dremel. Some carvers do the roughing with the angle grinders and Arbortech and finish with fine bits in the Dremel. Also depends on the size of the carving: A 1 meter tall carving would take a long time to rough out with a Dremel; an angle grinder would be overkill on a 150mm caricature.

Foredom SR model is my choice, it is said to be a Dremmel on speed.

Big question is dust and maybe I should post this over on that page.
But how does one cope with carving/sanding dust with orbital routing sanding gear. I had a flash of a 500MM diameter bell mouth hooked up to 150 hose

I am extremely fortunate, but also a lot of planning went into my dust management. I do a lot of wood turning, Arbortec carving, and now I have an overhead router.

Dust. I can open both sides of my 'dirty' area and the seabreeze romoves all dust, all I can flash up the evaporative air conditioner on high and direct the dust outside. I breathe through external air source. I live on 1/2 acre and essentially have vacant land behind me.

I also have a 3 HP dust extractor, but rarely use it these days, I hate changing bags.

A garden blower assists me with cleanshop cleanup

Failing this, I would build a cubicle and try to contain the dust and debris

My shop is slightly larger than a single car garage. I work at a down draft table made from a recycled Horn sewing cabinet and a 3hp dusty.

Ah! I have the Dewalt version of that tool he's using in the video. https://www.homedepot.com/p/DEWALT-7...4011/203574137 My carving with it was all "outside" carving, not "inside" like in a bowl, so I used a flat disk with big hunks of carbide on it. worked well for removing large amounts of wood. I worked outside, but wore P100 face mask, goggles, leather gloves, and a leather welder's apron.
