    Default Eagle V Cobra.

Decided to carve something for my Eagle to attack so a Cobra has popped out the wall to do battle Carved in lime and stained to a maple finish, I decided to stain the wood first then carve the scales, I think it makes them more prominent. Anyway WHO WINS?

You have been so very busy! Captured a moment in time, my all-time favorite concept, again. Think I'll bet on the eagle.

Thanks RV, I have been busy carving before summer arrives and it gets too hot, I love doing the wall concept but I've got a couple of carvings to do as wedding presents and one large abstract carving I've been planning then it will be back to the wall. Yeah I think the Eagle would win but it would need a direct hit with the claws

WOW what an action packed carving!
That would be a ferocious battle. Really Brilliant!

Excellent work! I'd also have to bet on the eagle. Look closely at the flag of Mexico sometime. No cobras there, but lots of rattlesnakes.

Ah ha I had know idea that was on the Mexican flag, thanks Claude, We don't get Cobra's here either but they look impressive. Tiger snakes and Taipan's are bad enough.

Ah ! just caught this thread , great work !
How did you find carving the lime ?
Eagle wins but not for long if he's not very careful ?

Thanks Mike, I really like carving the lime, you seem to be able to chisel in different directions without splitting it or taking big chunks out, the only thing I didn't like much is I find it quite hard to sand. I took a chance on it and bought a big lot so most of what I'm doing at the moment will be in lime. It takes detail well but Huon Pine is still my number 1, it has a nicer grain, very easy to carve and sand but it's expensive and hard to find in WA.

Yes Lime doesn't sand very well & never use wire wool on it as it leaves a horrid permanent grey stain !
It doesn't respond well to burrs either fuzzing up & leaving a poor finish.
However it does edge tool finish beautifully & as you've already found out for yourself you can even go against the grain a little too .
Lime will hold the tiniest of detail very crisply & sharply.
If only it wasn't so err...... well bland & boring when finished I'd use it more , there again, that is a positive advantage when the focus is to be on the sculpture.
