Just saw Copeau's dragon. May try ukibori on mine tomorrow. See if it works with white beech. I have my doubts.

I like both, plenty to look at.
For Ukibori, the link that copeau offered (in his Dragon thread) is enough encouragement for me to do some experiments in birch.

I like this very much, most especially admire the feeling of it being a whole story & not a single theme.
I'm just wondering , are there some aboriginal influences coming through in the design?
On the ukibori technique - I remember a British netsuke caver saying that the most critical thing was to compress the fibres as far as you dare but NOT breaking them was the trick. He used hemi-spherical punches of different sizes or a toad he had carved.

I heard something interesting the other day to do with Australians being able to create their own myths more readily due to isolation. I often feel a great debt to Aboriginals because their myths are written into the country and we can't help but be influenced by them if we are receptive enough; consciously or subconsciously.

Thumbs up with Ukibori on white beech. I air dried this with my 320 km hr bunnings leaf blower to get excess mousture off quickly. .

Your Evolution #3 puts me in mind of the work in a beautiful park we visited in Oslo, Norway.
